 2017 Preview 


       Hooper Academy completed the 2016 season with a 4-6 record.

       The Colts last playoff victory came during the 1997 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, the Hooper Academy football program has struggled with a record of 22-54.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Hooper Academy has managed to compile a record of 120-159. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class AAA and 29th in the AISA.

Chad Michael leaves Hooper Academy after just two years with a 5-15 record.


Duane McWhorter a graduate of Lee in Montgomery in 1978 will lead Hooper Academy onto the football field this year. He spent 20 years at Jeff Davis including five as the head football coach with a 21-27 record.



       Coach McWhorter's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 21-27 (43.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach McWhorter's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times .

       The Hooper Academy Colts will play in Class AAA region two during the 2017 season.

       This season, the Colts will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two.

       The Colts open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Macon-East Academy on Friday, August 25 at Davis Henry Field. Last year the Macon-East Academy Knights finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in fifth place in Class AA region one. The Knights closed out the regular season with a loss to South Montgomery Academy by a score of 51-13.

       Hooper Academy and Macon-East Academy have met a total of 24 times on the football field. The Colts have a 7-17-0 record against the Knights. They last met in 2016 with Hooper Academy winning by a score of 28-12.

       Hooper Academy returns AISA All-State sophomore defensive back Grant Tyson. He was named to the second team last season.
